Wall
and Ceiling
From the ecological point of view
clay is the best material for wall building. Plain limestone plaster, however, will also
contribute to a good living hygiene. Exaggerated addition of cement in most cases reduces
considerably the wall's and ceiling's capability of absorbing vapour, gases and steam.
Mold in the outer wall corners frequently proves that the walls are too tight, not
sufficiently vapour permeable. Very often this has been caused subsequently in old
buildings. Unreasonable interior insulation with styropor or wallpaper that is not
breathable enough may be reasons for moist walls. Often the previous occupier of the house
certainly wanted to warm up the cold or moist outer wall by insulating it without
considering that it is the dweller who constantly produces humidity in form of vapour that
must be able to penetrate through the wall. Often, subsequently even natural products are
unsufficient or no help at all. Complete renovation of the walls and subsequent very
careful and expert wall preparation is necessary.
